Randy Goodnight - Director of Bands
Randy Goodnight is the new Director of Bands for the Perkins-Tryon School District starting in 2021. Mr. Goodnight attended The University of Central Oklahoma where he earned a Bachelor of Music Education in 2017. During his time at UCO, Mr. Goodnight studied trumpet as his principal instrument, participated in many instrumental ensembles, and earned his minor in Jazz Studies. Mr. Goodnight is currently pursuing a Master of Educaitional Leadership from The University of Central Oklahoma.
Mr. Goodnight has held professional memberships in the National Association for Music Education, Oklahoma Music Educators Association, Oklahoma Bandmasters Association, and Oklahoma Jazz Educators. Mr. Goodnight actively performs in the OKC area as a professional trumpet player. He currently lives in Perkins, OK with his wife, Abbi, their son, Everett, and their one-eyed dog.
Avery Nichols - Assistant Director of Bands
Avery Nichols has served as Assistant Director of Bands for the Perkins-Tryon School District since 2019. Mr. Nichols graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2019. Prior to his time at Oklahoma State, he graduated from Jenks High School in 2015. Mr. Nichols has performed with many groups during his time at OSU including the wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, the symphony orchestra, and the drum line. In 2017, Mr. Nichols performed at the College Band Directors National Association conference in Kansas City with the wind ensemble. He has also performed at many schools and universities around the state with the drum line and percussion ensemble.
During his time at OSU, Mr. Nichols taught various ages of private percussion lessons to students, many of whom have made the all region band and received superior ratings at solo and ensemble contests. He also worked on the Stillwater High School marching percussion staff for three years. His professional affiliations include Percussive Arts Society, National Association for Music Education, Oklahoma Bandmasters Association, and Oklahoma Music Educators Association. He actively plays percussion in the Stillwater Community Band.
Mr. Nichols lives in Perkins with his wife, Sara, and their dogs Dexter and Rose.
