KG Robinson - Director of Bands
KG Robinson has served as Director of Bands for the Perkins-Tryon School District since 2019. Graduating from Perkins-Tryon High School in 2007, Mr. Robinson then attended Oklahoma State University where he earned a Bachelor of Music Education in 2011. During his tenure at OSU, Mr. Robinson studied horn as his principal instrument, participated in many instrumental ensembles, and served as the drum major of the OSU Cowboy Marching Band. Mr. Robinson later earned his Master of Music Education with Emphasis in Wind Band Conducting from the University of Oklahoma in 2018.
Prior to his appointment as Director of Bands at Perkins-Tryon, Mr. Robinson served as Director of Bands for Blackwell Public Schools from 2011-2012, Assistant Director of Bands for Perkins-Tryon Public Schools from 2012-2018, and Assistant Director of Bands for Stillwater Public Schools from 2018-2019.
Under Mr. Robinson's direction, his ensembles have consistently earned superior ratings at marching, concert, and jazz band contests. In addition, Mr. Robinson has been recognized as the "Teacher of Today" by the Masonic Fraternity of Oklahoma (2012), received the "Sherri Gordon Community Service" award from the Perkins Chamber of Commerce (2015), and was chosen as the Perkins-Tryon Middle School Teacher of the Year (2016).
Mr. Robinson has held professional memberships in the National Association for Music Education, Oklahoma Music Educators Association, Oklahoma Bandmasters Association, and is a member of the Conn-Selmer VIP program. Mr. Robinson actively performs with the Stillwater Community Band (horn) and Stillwater Jazz (trumpet). He currently lives in Perkins, OK with his wife, Darci, and his son, Sawyer.
Avery Nichols - Assistant Director of Bands
Avery Nichols has served as Assistant Director of Bands for the Perkins-Tryon School District since 2019. Mr. Nichols graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2019. Prior to his time at Oklahoma State, he graduated from Jenks High School in 2015. Mr. Nichols has performed with many groups during his time at OSU including the wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, the symphony orchestra, and the drum line. In 2017, Mr. Nichols performed at the College Band Directors National Association conference in Kansas City with the wind ensemble. He has also performed at many schools and universities around the state with the drum line and percussion ensemble.
During his time at OSU, Mr. Nichols taught various ages of private percussion lessons to students, many of whom have made the all region band and received superior ratings at solo and ensemble contests. He also worked on the Stillwater High School marching percussion staff for three years. His professional affiliations include the Percussive Arts Society, the National Association for Music Education, and the Oklahoma Music Educators Association.
Mr. Nichols lives in Perkins with his wife, Sara, and their dog Dexter.
