I hope everyone is having a great summer! I am attaching our summer newsletter with our band camp schedule in it. There will be a lot more information that will be added later, but this will give you an idea of how camp works if you are new to HS band this year!
Students were given the dates of band camp before the spring semester ended last year. It is important that students attend all of band camp. The first week is the longest due to the fact that football has not started practice yet. I do understand there will be some conflict with cheerleading and softball, and possibly a bit with football. Make sure you communicate with us and with your coaches. We have always managed to work things out to where you can attend both. You just need to manage your time and learn how to juggle your schedule.
I am also attaching a band calendar for the 2017-2018 school year. THIS CALENDAR WILL CHANGE!!! There are some things that I simply do not know the dates of yet. There will also be some additions to the calendar. I will give as much notice as possible with any additions. Also, I STRONGLY advise you sync your smartphone calendar with the band's Google calendar. It should always be up-to-date with correction information.
Also, as a reminder to everyone, remember that being part of the HS Band means that ALL performances are mandatory, unless otherwise noted or specified by the directors. This includes all football games, parades, contests, basketball games, or anything else listed on the calendar. We are a performance organization and you are expected to be there. Unless there is a school conflict, family emergency, or severe illness, you are required to be at these performances. In addition, if something like an emergency or illness occurs, a PARENT will need to notify Mrs. Cartmell BEFORE the performance.
STUDENTS: Make sure you are practicing the show music! I will be uploading the sheet music to the website under the downloads section sometime this week. You also need to make sure you have the pep band music printed off and you have the correct part for your instrument. Use the recordings of the Les Miserables music to help you. If you haven't been practicing, it is not too late to start. The more prepared you are coming into band camp, the easier it will be fore everyone! If you are not sure which part you should be playing, check the list for part assignments!!! You will be expected to know the part assigned to you! YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DOWNLOADING AND PRINTING ANY MUSIC YOU NEED! THIS SHOULD BE DONE BEFORE BAND CAMP BEGINS! I will send out a Remind message with the password. If you do not receive it, contact me or another student.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact me! My cell number is listed on the newsletter as well as my email address.
Get outside and start getting acclimated to the heat. It will be hot when we start camp! Enjoy the rest of your summer and don't forget to practice!!
