Pam Cartmell - Director
Pam Cartmell has served as Director of Bands in the Perkins-Tryon School District since 2002. Originally from Chillicothe, OH, Mrs. Cartmell moved to Sand Springs, OK, as a child and graduated from Charles Page High School in 1991. She then went on to Oklahoma State University where she received a Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1995. While at OSU, Cartmell studied saxophone as her principal instrument while also studying piano and clarinet. She performed in numerous ensembles such as the: Wind Ensemble (principal saxophone), Symphonic Band (principal saxophone), Cowboy Marching Band (Drum Major and Section Leader), Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Spirit Band. Until recently, she was still actively performing with the Stillwater Jazz playing lead tenor saxophone.
Her ensembles have consistently earned superior ratings in both OSSAA marching and concert band contests. in addition, her bands have received the OSSAA Sweepstakes Award numerous times. The band has also earned the OSSAA Academic Achievement Award every year which shows the academic strength of the Perkins-Tryon band students. In 2017, the Perkins-Tryon High School Band was chosen to perform as an Honor Group for the Oklahoma Music Educators Association annual conference.
Mrs. Cartmell previously taught in Pond Creek-Hunter and Morrison before coming to the Perkins-Tryon School District in the fall of 2002. In 2015, she was chosen as the P-THS Teacher of the Year and was recognized as the "Teacher of Today" by The Masonic Fraternity of Oklahoma. In 2018, Mrs. Cartmell was inducted into the Beta Chapter of Phi Beta Mu during the Oklahoma Music Educators Association's annual conference. During the same conference, she was also elected to serve on the OkMEA All-State Band committee for the next four years.
Mrs. Cartmell holds professional memberships in the National Association for Music Education, Oklahoma Music Educators Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association.
KG Robinson - Director
KG Robinson has served as Director of Bands for the Perkins-Tryon School District since 2012. Graduating from the Perkins-Tryon School District in 2007, Robinson then attended Oklahoma State University where he earned a Bachelor of Music Education in 2011. During his tenure at OSU, Robinson studied horn as his principal instrument, participated in many instrumental ensembles, and served as the drum major for the OSU Cowboy Marching Band.
Before returning to Perkins-Tryon in 2012, Robinson previously served as Director of Bands for the Blackwell Public School District. He has been recognized as the "Teacher of Today" by The Masonic Fraternity of Oklahoma (2012), received the "Sherri Gordon Community Service" award from the Perkins Chamber of Commerce (2015), and was chosen as the P-TMS Teacher of the Year (2016).
Mr. Robinson has held professional memberships in the National Association for Music Education, Oklahoma Music Educators Association, and the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association.
Robinson actively performs with the Stillwater Community Band (horn) and Stillwater Jazz (trumpet). He is currently working toward a Master of Music Education at the University of Oklahoma.
